About That Anthrax

By David Swanson

So, the word Anthrax is back in the news, but only because a man contracted it through what is reportedly a freak accident, not because Saddam Hussein’s vast stockpiles have been found, not because Bush has apologized for inventing those vast stockpiles, not because Forest Whitaker has agreed to play Colin Powell in “The Sting II: Hustling the United Nations,” not because impeachment proceedings have begun, and especially not because the U.S. corporate media has read more

If Bush does not meet the marchers’ read more

Sweat Shop Workers Tour US Colleges That Sell Their Products

By David Swanson

“It would take half our salary to buy one of the sweat shirts we produce,” Josefina Hernandez Ponce told students at the University of Virginia on Wednesday night. The classroom was packed to capacity with students in every seat and squeezed in on the floor.

A flyer passed around showed where the $39.99 paid for a UVA sweatshirt goes ($2.40 in royalties to the university, $0.20 in pay to the workers who made it).

But that familiar story wasn’t all that Hernandez read more

Why Peace Organizations Should Work for the Impeachment of Bush and Cheney

By David Swanson

1.-Impeachment is where people’s energy is, all over the country. If we want a large and growing and democratic movement, we should listen to our members.

2.-Exposing the lies and the crimes related to this war is, more than anything else, building opposition to the war, as well as to future wars. There is no better way to expose the crimes than to demand an investigation that could lead to impeachment. (As demanded by H Res 635.)

3.-Bush and Cheney have given dozens of read more

How You — Yes You — Can End the War

By David Swanson

Simple acts and a little courage have worked wonders in the world.  Nonviolent people’s movements won democratic reforms in Russia, booted the British out of India, resisted the Nazi occupation in Denmark, drove a dictator out of El Salvador and another out of the Philippines, ended Jim Crow, crushed Soviet power in Poland, toppled military regimes in Argentina and Chile, ended Apartheid, and brought democracy to the Ukraine.  George W. is no match for a force this read more

Debating Impeachment Among Democrats

By David Swanson

Can you even imagine Republicans, even if they were in a minority in Congress, debating whether or not to call for the impeachment of a Democratic president known and documented as guilty of a wide range of high crimes and misdemeanors? In particular, if you can imagine that, can you imagine the Republicans who opposed impeachment arguing that they were doing so for strategic political reasons?

This is hard to imagine, because the Republicans won a majority in Congress by loudly read more

Impeachment Versus Arianna

By David Swanson

Joe Scarborough hosted a discussion of impeachment last night on MSNBC. Here’s the transcript:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11256483/

There were four guests, two explicitly labeled as liberals, and two as conservatives. The conservatives were Tucker Carlson and Pat Buchanan. The liberals were Liz Holtzman and Arianna Huffington.

Holtzman was excellent and made some powerful points.

Arianna crossed over to the dark side.

By that I don’t mean that she became a conservative. read more
